2026 Abstract - MANAGING FOR HIGH YIELD IN COTTON WITH COVER CROPS: Improving soil health is critical for sustaining profitable cotton production in the Mid-South. This presentation will highlight production practices that restore and enhance soil function, including the use of cover crops, reduced tillage, crop rotation, and balanced fertility management. Improving nutrient cycling and increasing water-holding capacity will be emphasized as keys to improving resilience in the face of weather extremes. Real-world examples will be shared to show how regenerative approaches can improve yields, reduce input costs, and strengthen long-term profitability and sustainability in Mid-South cotton production systems.
