2025 Abstract - NITROGEN CONSIDERATIONS FOR RYE COVER CROPS BEFORE COTTON: Low residual soil N levels in coarse-textured Coastal Plain soils of the Southeast US require some N fertilizer to maximize biomass production and subsequent benefits. However, applying fertilizer N is expensive. Examining N fertilizer management guidelines for winter cereals can help growers ensure they enhance benefits, control their costs, and maximize their return on investment when growing cereal cover crops. Considerations include the amount of N and appropriate timing for the region.
