2026 Abstract - SOYBEAN SESSION - LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER: THE BATTLE OF THE NEMATODE PARASITE: Based in Gregory, Arkansas, Perry Galloway has enjoyed a successful career farming the soil of the east central part of the state. He’ll speak on the ongoing battle he and many other farmers fight against the nematode parasite, a nemesis that wages war against the very root of the crops he attempts to grow every year. He’ll be joined by Dr. Tom Allen of Mississippi State University. 2026 Abstract - ROUNDTABLE SESSION - COTTON LEAF SPOT DISEASES: A CAUSE FOR CONCERN OR JUST COSMETIC?: The leaf spot complex, which includes Stemphylium leaf spot, Alternaria leaf spot, and Cercospora leaf spot, is often considered a minor issue in cotton. However, under certain environmental conditions, these diseases can become severe and raise concerns about potential yield losses. This presentation will explore a case study from Arkansas where leaf spot diseases were unusually severe, prompting questions about when such outbreaks warrant concern. Additional discussions will include other foliar diseases such as target spot and areolate mildew. Finally, the discussion will address environmental conditions, production practices, and agronomic practices that promote severe disease development, along with when and if management strategies are necessary to protect cotton yield potential.
