2025 Abstract - CORN GRAIN YIELD AND NITROGEN UPTAKE RESPONSE TO NITROGEN APPLICATION METHODS: Mid-South corn yields are dependent on nitrogen fertilizer inputs, which influence production costs. Through the manipulation of nitrogen application methods, it is possible to maintain or improve productivity and profitability while mitigating adverse environmental outcomes. Common nitrogen fertilizer application methods have similar influences on corn grain yield, providing producers with cost effective options. These application methods have direct implications for off-target nitrogen fertilizer runoff, with subsurface coulter-injected application being the main contributor. Nitrogen fertilizer can be applied through these methods to maintain producer productivity and profitability and reduce adverse environmental consequences.
